Terms of service
Last updated 24 October 2026
1. Who we are
The Live Atlas (theliveatlas.com) is run by [company name], a company registered in England and Wales (company number [company number]), registered office [registered address]. Contact us at [contact email]. In these terms "we" means [company name] and "you" means anyone using the site.
2. What The Live Atlas is
The Live Atlas is an information service: a map and briefings about armed conflict, unrest, terrorist threats, country indices, migration, visa rules and weather, put together from public reporting and published data, with alerts and tools for paying subscribers.
Not advice
Risk levels, stages and ratings are our editorial assessments. They are not official travel, security, legal, immigration, financial or medical advice, and they may be incomplete or out of date. Visa information can change without notice: always confirm on the official government site before applying or travelling, and check your government's travel advice (for UK travellers, the FCDO). Don't rely on The Live Atlas for decisions about anyone's safety. In an emergency contact the local emergency services or your embassy.
3. Accounts
You can use the free map without an account. To subscribe you sign in with your email address; we send you a one-time link instead of a password. Keep access to your email secure. You must be 18 or over to buy a subscription.
4. Plans, prices and payment
- Free: the map, briefings, travel and visa guides, weather, and up to 3 watched places with in-app alerts.
- Pro: £5.99 a month or £49 a year.
- Team: £79 a month for up to 5 people, or £199 a month for up to 25 people.
Prices are shown in pounds sterling and include VAT where it applies. Payments are taken by our payment partners, Paddle (Paddle.com Market Ltd) or Gumroad, who act as the merchant of record: they process your payment, issue your receipt and handle VAT and sales tax. We never see or store your card details. Your agreement for the payment itself is with them, under their terms. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each month or year until you cancel. If we change a price we will email you at least 30 days before it applies to you, and you can cancel before then.
Free trial
Pro starts with a 14-day free trial, once per person. If you don't cancel before the trial ends, your subscription starts and the first payment is taken. We'll remind you by email a few days before.
5. Cancelling, your right to cancel and refunds
You can cancel at any time from Plans → Manage billing. Your plan stays active until the end of the period you've already paid for, then ends.
Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations you have 14 days from the day you subscribe to cancel. Because the service starts straight away (or at the end of your trial), we ask you to agree that it can start during that period. To keep things simple, we go further than the law requires: if you ask within 14 days of your first payment, we'll refund that payment in full, whether or not you've used Pro. After that, payments are not refundable, but cancelling stops all future payments. To ask for a refund, email [contact email].
6. Team plans
The person who buys a Team plan is the account owner and is responsible for the people they add and the trip information they enter about them, including having a lawful basis to share it with us. Team plans are for business use, so the consumer cancellation rights in section 5 don't apply to them, but the 14-day refund on the first payment does.
7. Using the site fairly
- Don't scrape or bulk download the site other than through the downloads and data API we provide, and don't try to get round plan limits.
- Don't use The Live Atlas to harm, track or harass anyone, or for anything unlawful.
- Embeds may be used on any site with the credit link in place (Team plans may remove it).
- You may quote and reuse our briefings and data with credit to The Live Atlas. Some underlying indices belong to other organisations and have their own terms (see the sources in each briefing and profile).
8. Partner links
Some links to travel insurance, eSIM, VPN and booking services are affiliate links: we may earn a commission if you buy, at no extra cost to you. It never affects our ratings or visa information, and links to government sites never carry tracking. Your purchase is with that company under its own terms.
9. Availability and changes
We work to keep The Live Atlas running and accurate, but we can't promise it will always be available, error-free or up to date. We may change features from time to time; if we remove something important from a paid plan we'll tell you and you can cancel with a refund for any unused prepaid period.
10. Our responsibility to you
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that can't be limited by law, and it doesn't affect your statutory rights as a consumer. Otherwise, because The Live Atlas is an information service and not advice, we aren't responsible for losses caused by relying on it, and our total liability to you is limited to the amount you've paid us in the 12 months before the claim. We aren't responsible for losses that weren't foreseeable or for business losses (for consumers), or for indirect losses (for business customers).
11. Ending your use
You can stop using The Live Atlas and delete your account at any time by emailing [contact email]. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms; if we do that without a good reason we'll refund any unused prepaid period.
12. Complaints and law
If something goes wrong, email [contact email] and we'll aim to reply within 5 working days. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you're a consumer you can also bring a claim in the courts of the part of the UK where you live.
